Since classic massage has its roots in ancient Egypt and the ancient high cultures of Asia, it is considered one of the oldest medical treatment methods in human history. The origins of classic massage can be traced back to the third millennium BC, when massage techniques were described in Chinese literature. Knowledge of classic massage and its soothing effects was lost around the time of Christ’s birth, before classic massage was rediscovered in the late Middle Ages. The Dutch physician Johann Georg Mezger was able to prove that classic massage has medical effects. Classic massage was incorporated into the canon of medical treatment methods by the orthopaedist Prof. Dr. Hoffa towards the end of the 19th century.
